(ESPANOLA, ON) - On Wednesday May 23, 2018 officers from the Manitoulin-Espanola Detachment were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checks at Highway 17 in Baldwin Township, Ontario.
At approximately 12:08 a.m., officers checked a vehicle and determined that the driver, who was suspended, had been consuming alcoholic beverages.
As a result of the investigation, John GATCHELL, age 60, of Sudbury, Ontario has been charged with:
Driving While Under Suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act;
Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol, contrary to section 253(1(a) of the Criminal Code; and with
Driving With Over 80 mg of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, Ontario on July 9, 2018.
