(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) - On Saturday May 19, 2018 at approximately 2:30 a.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was engaged in a traffic stop on Wellington Road 124, near Guelph Lake. While stopped and with emergency lights activated, a grey sedan passed the fully marked cruiser at a high rate of speed, running on the rims and littering the highway with car parts.
Police disengaged from the traffic stop and followed the debris down the highway, locating the vehicle in a nearby ditch. The lone occupant was uninjured. Investigation led to the arrest of the driver for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was transported to a local OPP detachment for testing.
29-year-old Joshua Ernest COUSTEILS of Erin has been charged with Impaired Driving and Driving with Over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on June 12, 2018.
