(THE ARCHIPELAGO TOWNSHIP, ON) - On June 1, 2018 at shortly before 7 p.m., members of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a possible impaired driver weaving erratically on Highway 69 in The Archipelago Township, Ontario. An officer located the vehicle and spoke with the driver. The officer determined that he had consumed alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, Sureshkumar KARUPPIAH, a 48 year old male from Markham, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Operate motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
Operate motor vehicle - over 80 mgs. of blood alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC.
He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on June 21, 2018.
The passenger, Derek LUBBELINKOF, a 41 year old from Oshawa, Ontario was charged for consuming liquor in other than licenced premise contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act.
The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
