(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) - On Sunday May 27, 2018, at approximately 10:00 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, south of Fergus. The officer observed a male driving an older model sedan at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 50 km/h.
19-year-old Brandan Austin HAYNES of Fergus has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on July 18, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
