(SEGUIN TOWNSHIP, ON) - On June 7, 2018 a member of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was monitoring traffic on Highway 400 in McDougall Township, Ontario. At shortly before 3 p.m., a south bound vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. As a result, the vehicle was stopped for "Stunt driving - excessive speed, greater than 50 km/hr over posted speed limit".
The driver, Gregory BERNARD, a 35 year old male from Toronto, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Race a motor vehicle - excessive speed contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA), and
Possession of a Schedule II Substance - Cannabis Marihuana - under 30 grams contrary to the section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).
The driver was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on August 2,, 2018. His licence has been suspended for seven days and the vehicle he was operating has been impounded for seven days.
Every person convicted of performing a stunt with a motor vehicle is liable to a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both. In addition to his or her driver's licence being suspended and the vehicle they were operating being impounded for seven days.
