(MCDOUGALL TOWNSHIP, ON) - On June 10, 2018 at shortly after 7 p.m., a member of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police observed a motor vehicle signal and turn onto the 400 Highway off-ramp from Bowes Street in Parry Sound Ontario. The vehicle continued in the wrong direction and disobeyed two wrong way signs, meeting a vehicle exiting the 400 Highway. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver. The officer determined that he had consumed alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, David FONK, a 27 year old male from McKellar, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Driving motor vehicle while ability impaired by alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
Driving motor vehicle with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC,
Driving vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA), and
Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero, contrary to section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
The driver was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on July 5, 2018.
The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
