(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) - On Thursday June 7, 2018 at approximately 12:30 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, north of Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a white passenger vehicle at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 50km/hr. During the traffic stop, officers formed the opinion that the driver was intoxicated by alcohol. He was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing.
25-year-old David William O'DWYER of Mono has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Impaired Driving contrary to the Criminal Code. He scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on July 6, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
