(Midland, ON) -Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been busy checking for driver sobriety at R.I.D.E. check stops over the last seven days but some drivers still miss the message. Although almost 900 drivers were checked between June 8 and June 14, 2018 officers investigated four separate crashes where drinking and driving was a contributing factor.
Most recently on June 11,2018 at 7:53 pm officers were dispatched to investigate a single vehicle into a tree crash on Honey Harbour Road in Georgian Bay Township. with two male occupants. Investigators located two male occupants at the scene and spoke with the male driver and entered into a drinking and driving investigation. As a result of the investigation the driver Mark WINGFELDER 21 years of Severn Township has been charged with Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada. He was also charged with Young driver - B.A.C. above zero contrary to section 44.1(5) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
