(THE ARCHIPELAGO TOWNSHIP, ON) - On June 29, 2018 at shortly before 8 p.m., a member of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) on Joyce Line Road in The Archipelago Township, Ontario.
Investigation determined that an east bound ATV hit an oncoming west-bound motor vehicle on a curve in the roadway. The officer spoke with the ATV driver and determined that he had consumed alcohol. The driver of the ATV was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and released.
As a result of the investigation Zachary KOOL, a 25 year old male from Brantford, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Driving motor vehicle while ability impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,
Drive motor vehicle - over 80 mgs. of blood alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC.
Careless driving, contrary to section 16 of the Off Road Vehicle Act (ORVA),
Drive off-road vehicle - no insurance, contrary to section 15(a) of the ORVA,
Drive off-road vehicle - no number plate, contrary to section 3(1) of the ORVA,
The driver was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on August 2, 2018.
The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
