(SEGUIN TOWNSHIP, ON) - On July 1, 2018 at shortly after 4 p.m., members of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting marine patrol in the waters of Little Whitefish Lake in Seguin Township, Ontario. A vessel was checked and the officer spoke to the operator. The officer determined that he had consumed alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, Kevin WILLIAMSON, a 31 year old male from Innisfil, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Operate vessel with more 80 mgs of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
Operate vessel underway with open liquor, to section 32(3) of the CC.
The driver was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on August 2, 2018.
The passenger, Mark BOWEN, a 31 year old male from Barrie, Ontario was charged with possession of a controlled schedule II substance - Marihuana - under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA).
The OPP reminds vessel operators that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when operating a boat and that the same laws apply to boats as vehicles. Anyone who suspects a vessel operator that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
