(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) - On Sunday July 1, 2018, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, between Salem and Elora. The officer observed a female driving a white sedan at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 50 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 105 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 55 km/h.
26-year-old Maria Nella CASCANTE of Waterloo has been charged with Racing contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on August 15, 2018. Her driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
