(HENVEY FIRST NATIONS, ON) - On July 15, 2018 shortly after 7 p.m., members of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Beckanon Road in Henvey First Nation. Police spoke to the driver determining that he had consumed alcohol.
As a result of the investigation Percy ASHAWASAGAI, a 50-year old male from Britt, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Drive motor vehicle - over 80 mgs. of blood alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code, and
Drive motor vehicle while ability impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(a) the CC,
The driver was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on August 30, 2018.
The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
