(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) - On July 29, 2018 at approximately 4:00 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a water rescue on Lake Belwood. Four men had stopped their boat in about 6 Meters (20 feet) of water to swim. While swimming, one of the men was overtaken by water. Despite efforts to safe him he failed to resurface. OPP, Centre Wellington Fire & Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedics Service attended and searched for the missing man until dusk.
On July 30, 2018, the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (U.S.R.U.) searched the area and located the body in the vicinity where he was last observed. He was identified by family at the scene as 31-year-old Sathees GNANENTHIRAN of Mississauga. The Office of the Chief Coroner is investigating the cause of the death. The deceased was not wearing a life jacket.
