(PERTH EAST, ON) - Shortly after 8:30 a.m. on August 13, 2018, a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Perth County detachment observed a stunt driver on Perth Line 43 in the Township of Perth East.
The vehicle failed to stop for police and fled the scene, entering a ditch. The vehicle was located by police and no injuries were sustained by the lone occupant.
As a result, forty-nine-year old Zoltan BERTOK of Kitchener was arrested and charged with the following offences:
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
Flight while pursued by police;
Drive while under suspension; and,
Race a motor vehicle-excessive speed
The vehicle was towed and impounded. The male was later released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
"This incident is yet another example of the dangers associated with stunt driving. The actions of this driver placed other drivers, cyclists, and one of our members at serious and unnecessary risk. Stunt driving will not be tolerated, and we appreciate the community members who assisted with this investigation." Inspector Rob Scott, Detachment Commander, Perth County OPP.
