(PERTH EAST, ON) - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Perth County detachment attended a residence in the Township of Perth East on August 15, 2018 following a report of an entry to a garage on the property. While speaking with residents in the area, two more reports similar reports were made.
The incidents are believed to have occurred during the overnight hours of August 14, 2018 at three residential properties in the village of Sebringville. An unlocked shed was entered in a backyard via an unlocked gate. A mountain bicycle and tools were removed. An unlocked garage located on a second property was entered. No theft occurred. The third incident involved entry to two unlocked vehicles at the address. A quantity of currency and personal documents were removed.
While in an area, thieves will try to access as many properties as possible. Unlocked and insecure property presents one opportunity after another. Speak with your neighbours; remind each other to lock all vehicles, gates, sheds, windows. Store equipment in a locked container or building. Turn exterior lights on during the overnight hours.
Keep an eye on your neighbours, including the properties of those away on holidays as well as older members in your community. Working together, we can reduce property crime.
