(PARRY SOUND, ON) - On August 16, 2018, shortly after 3 p.m. a member of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a motorcycle travelling at an extremely fast speed on Seguin Street in Parry Sound, Ontario. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the black motorcycle failed to stop and fled the area. Police received reports of the motorcycle weaving in traffic and going through stop lights. The motorcycle failed to negotiate a turn on Parry Sound Road and went into the ditch. The driver fled on foot.
The K9 unit and Emergency Response Unit (ERT) attended and the suspect was located. Daniel VARCOE, 34-year-old male from Brampton, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Flight while pursed by peace officer contrary to section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code (CC),
Dangerous operation of a vehicle contrary to section 249.1(a) of the CC,
Driving while disqualified - court order, contrary to section 259(4) of the CC, four counts, and
Drive motor vehicle - no plates, contrary to section 7(1)(b)(i) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
The accused was held in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound.
