(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) - On Saturday August 25, 2018, at approximately 8:40 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting Lidar speed enforcement and monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway near Laird Road in the City of Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a white automobile northbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on Lidar in excess of 140 km/h.
60-year-old Lalithathasan SHANMUGAHA SARMA of North York has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle and Drive Motor Vehicle No Licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Fail to Have Insurance Card contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on October 3, 2018 and his driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
