(PERTH COUNTY, ON) - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Perth County detachment will be participating in a province-wide traffic safety campaign, beginning August 31-September 3, 2018.
With a focus on distracted driving, the campaign is one of several traffic safety initiatives conducted on OPP patrolled roads throughout the year. Distracted and inattentive drivers pose an unnecessary and serious risk to public safety.
Distractions within a vehicle can take many forms; however, the consistent risk to public safety is the removal of a driver's attention from the road.
In addition to the risk of a serious or fatal motor vehicle collision, other consequences of distracted driving include a $490.00 fine and 3 demerit points.
The Perth County OPP Sebringville detachment will be displaying a damaged motor vehicle during the campaign as a reminder of the dangers of distracted driving.
All motorists are urged to keep safety at the forefront heading into the long weekend. Should you observe concerning driving behaviour, pull over and report it by calling 1-888-310-1122. In emergencies, dial 9-1-1.
Put away the distractions and arrive at your destination safely.
