(BANCROFT, ON) - In the early evening on September 01, 2018, an officer of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), was conducting radar enforcement on Highway 28S in Faraday Township when he came across a vehicle driving erratically and traveling at more than 65km/h over the posted limit of 80km/h.
The officer activated his lights to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle failed to stop. At this time the vehicle attempted to evade police and became involved in a single motor vehicle collision.
Officers from the Bancroft Detachment, OPP Emergency Response Team and OPP Canine Unit attended the scene to assist in locating the male who left on foot. A short time later, officers located the male and placed him under arrest. There were no injuries as a result of the motor vehicle collision.
As a result of the investigation, Richard JESSO, 29 years of Etobicoke Ontario has been charged with:
Possession Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
Dangerous operation of Motor Vehicle
Flight while pursued by peace officer
Driving while under suspension
Race a motor vehicle - stunt
Fail to remain
Five (5) counts of Possession of an identity document.
The accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on September 02, 2018.
