(CENTRAL HURON, ON) - Two 15-year-old girls will have some explaining to do after they were caught this past weekend taking the family car out for a spin.
Just before 12:25 a.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2018 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checks at the north end of Clinton when they observed a vehicle conduct a U-Turn in an effort to avoid the checkpoint.
The alert officer noticed the suspicious move and took after the vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and when it came time to hand over a driver's licence the driver ran into a little problem. It was determined the driver and her passenger were only 15 years of age. Some further questioning revealed the teen had taken her parents vehicle out for a drive without permission.
Needless to say the joyride came to an end and a guardian attended the scene to retrieve the vehicle and the teens. The 15-year-old driver will now have to complete a Youth Diversionary Program to avoid a charge.
