(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) - On Wednesday December 5, 2018, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a black pickup at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at over 130 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by 50 km/h. The driver could not provide proof of vehicle insurance.
36-year-old Douglas Alexander MACHRIE of Guelph has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle and Driving without Insurance. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on January 16, 2019. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
