(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) - On Monday December 24, 2018 at approximately 5:30 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a multi-vehicle collision at Wellington Road 12 and Wellington Road 7, Parker. Reports indicated that a red pickup and blue hatchback collided and that four people had been injured. Police attended and while speaking with the driver of the pickup formed the opinion that he was impaired. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for testing. Four injured occupants from the hatchback were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
37-year-old Paul W. G. SEARTH of Moorefield has been charged with the new criminal code offences;
CC 320.14(1)(a) Operating a conveyance (motor vehicle, vessel, aircraft or railway equipment) while Impaired to any degree by Alcohol or Drug or Combination of Alcohol and Drug.
CC 320.14(a)(b) within two hours after ceasing to operate a conveyance had a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 80mg (or higher) of Alcohol in 100mL of Blood.
A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on February 1, 2019. If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, please call police at 911 to report it. It could save a life.
Operate means: in respect of a motor vehicle, to drive it or to have care or control of it; in respect of a vessel or aircraft, to navigate it, to assist in its navigation or to have care or control of it; in respect of railway equipment, to participate in the direct control of its motion, or to have care or control of it as a member of the equipment's crew, as a person who acts in lieu of a member of the equipment's crew by remote control, or otherwise.
