(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) - On Friday January 18, 2019 at approximately 11:40 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers investigated the driver of a silver pick-up truck on Highway 6 near the Second Line for a Highway Traffic Act violation.
While speaking with the male driver and making observations police determined that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and he was placed under arrest. He was transported to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing. Open containers of alcohol were seized from within the front compartment of the vehicle.
52-year-old John HEPWORTH of Fergus has been charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration - 80 plus and Operation While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada as well as Speeding and Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on February 19, 2019 to answer to the charges.
A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.
