(WEST PERTH, ON) - On February 20, 2019, a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Perth Detachment was operating a cruiser equipped with an Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.
An alert on the system signalled an expired validation sticker. Through the investigation it was determined that the rear licence plate on the motor vehicle was affixed with an altered validation sticker.
Stephen TOLTON, 60-years-old, of the Municipality of West Perth was charged with the following;
Use defaced validation sticker
Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
Driver - fail to properly wear seat belt
Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
The driver is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Stratford on March 26, 2019 to speak to the charges.
The OPP's ALPR-equipped vehicles are part of an effort to target those who drive illegally on Ontario's roads and highways, such as suspended drivers, drivers of stolen vehicles and other vehicles with plates in poor standing.
