(GODERICH, ON) - An early morning traffic stop for speeding has led to an Impaired 80 Plus charge for a Goderich driver.
This morning (22Feb) at approximately 3:50 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling on Cove Road in Goderich when the officer observed a compact car speeding on Cove Road.
A traffic stop was conducted and while police were speaking with the driver the odour of alcohol was detected on the driver's breath. As a result a roadside screening test was administered and the driver registered a fail. He was then placed under arrest and was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
Alex HOY, 24 years of age from Goderich has been charged with Impaired Operation - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus, Speeding, Fail to Surrender Licence and Novice Driver BAC Above Zero. He has since been released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 25, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. His vehicle was impounded for seven days and his licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
