(WEST PERTH, ON) - On April 22, 2019 at approximately 3:30 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Perth County detachment, Perth County Paramedic Services and West Perth Fire Department responded to the scene of a collision involving a pickup and a train on Road 160, east of Mitchell.
The pickup was traveling south on Road 160 and the slow moving train was traveling east.
The male driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
Hans HAMMERLI, 65-years-old, of Municipality of West Perth was issued a Provincial Offence notice and charged with disobey a railway crossing signal, proceed unsafely.
The OPP are reminding motorists to obey all railway signs and warning devices, such as lights, bells and gates. Before proceeding through a crossing, look both ways and listen for approaching trains. If a train is coming, or railway warning signals are activated, stop behind any gates or stop lines-or no closer than 5 metres away from the nearest rail-and wait for the train to pass.
