(GODERICH, ON) - A 35-year-old from Goderich is facing a criminal charge for Operation While Impaired - Over 80 following a traffic stop that took place in Goderich last week.
On May 22, 2019 at approximately 8:48 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report from a business that one of their customers just drove away from their business while possibly under the influence of alcohol.
Officers immediately started patrolling for the suspect vehicle and within a few minutes an officer spotted the suspect vehicle on Cambria Road in Goderich. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver came to a stop on Brock Street.
Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer detected the smell of alcohol on the driver's breath. As a result a roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. The driver was placed under arrest for Over 80 and was transported to the Huron Detachment for breath tests. The driver complied and ultimately supplied two breath samples of her breath to the Intoxilizer Technician; both tests were above the legal limit.
Kelly COATES, 35 years of age, from Goderich has been charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus. The accused was later released from custody with a court date scheduled for June 3, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
