(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) - On June 25, 2019 at 7:50 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patrolling the town of Wiarton, South Bruce Peninsula when an officer observed the driver of a (silver) van commit multiple Highway Traffic Act (HTA) violations, while following the vehicle.
Police stopped the vehicle and the male driver failed to produce a driver's licence as well as the necessary documents for the vehicle. Police learned that the driver was currently suspended from driving a motor vehicle. The officer arrested the driver, who actively resisted police, for driving while suspended.
Grey Bruce OPP have charged 31 year old, Warren STOTT of South Bruce Peninsula with the following:
Three counts of Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited, section 320.18 Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
Two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order, section 733.1(1) CC
Resist Peace Officer, section 129 CC
Driving a motor vehicle while under suspension, section 53(1) Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
Two counts Disobey stop sign - fail to stop, section 136(1)(a) HTA
Driver - fail to properly wear seat belt, section 106(2) HTA
Litter highway, section 180 HTA
Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle, section 7(5)(a) HTA
Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, section 32(1) Liquor Licence Act
Fail to surrender insurance card, section 3(1) Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
The accused was released on a Promise to Appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on July 18, 2019.
