(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) - On June 21, 2019, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol in the Village of Elora when he observed and heard the driver of a pick-up truck do a loud "burnout" while travelling southbound on Metcalfe Street.
Police conducted a traffic stop and deemed the vehicle to be unfit when the driver was unable to provide proof of valid insurance or a safety certificate for the recently purchased vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the plates were not registered to the vehicle.
21-year-old Jordan BELANGER HERWYNEN of Guelph-Eramosa Township has been charged with Operate Motor Vehicle on Highway - No Insurance, Unnecessary Noise, Operate Unsafe Vehicle and Use Plates Not Authorized contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offences Court on September 4, 2019.
