(SHAKESPEARE, ON) - At approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 7, 2019, a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sebringville detachment on focused patrol for speeding drivers observed a westbound motor vehicle on Line 34, east of Shakespeare. The vehicle was determined to be travelling significantly above the posted speed limit and was stopped by police.
In speaking with the driver, it was determined that the driver was suspended from driving and could not produce any insurance documents for the vehicle.
Brent TUFTS, 38-years-old, of Kitchener was charged the following;
Speeding 1 - 49 Km/h over posted limit
Driving while under suspension
Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
The vehicle was towed. The driver is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Stratford on August 13, 2019 to speak to the charges.
The OPP wants to remind driver's that speeding reduces the amount of available time needed to avoid a collision and increases the severity of a collision once it does occur.
