(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) - A two-year-old child has been injured and a 30-year-old from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is facing criminal charges as a result of an impaired driving incident that took place yesterday evening in Auburn.
On July 9, 2019 at around 7:30 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to a residence in Auburn to assist an injured child. Paramedics and police officers arrived on scene where they assisted a two-year-old that had sustained significant injuries. The child was assessed and ultimately transported to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation into the child's injuries revealed the accused had been driving a passenger van in Auburn with several passengers when the child fell out of the moving van through the rear hatch onto the roadway.
Further investigation revealed the driver of the van had consumed some alcohol thus a roadside screening test was conducted. The driver complied with the test and her test resulted in a fail. She was immediately arrested for Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus.
The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where she provided two samples of her breath to the qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both tests were above the legal limit.
Alysia KARL, 30 years of age, from Goderich has been charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus and Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm. She was later released from custody with a court date scheduled for July 29, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. Her vehicle was impounded and her licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
