(TOWNSHIP OF NORTH PERTH, ON) - On July 9, 2019 at approximately 2:30 a.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a sedan on Perth Road 30 in the Village of Atwood. While speaking with the driver, officer's observed a small child seated on a 30-can, case of beer. The driver was using the case of beer as a substitution for the two-year-old child's booster-seat.
The 22-year-old driver from Wellington North was charged with Fail to Ensure Toddler Properly Secured and issued a Provincial Offence Notice. A proper child seat was brought to the location and Family & Children's Services has been notified.
Any child in a passenger vehicle that has not reached 8-years-old or 80 lbs or 4'9" must be secured in some form of booster-seat or child-seat. Those under 40 lbs will require a child-seat and those under 22lbs will require a rear facing child-seat. Always follow manufactures instructions when sizing and mounting child seats.
