(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) - On August 3, 2019 at approximately 2:35 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. Program on the Hanon Expressway near Wellington Road in the City of Guelph. Police investigated the driver of a grey sedan that entered into the checkpoint.
While speaking with the operator of the vehicle, officers formed the opinion that the driver had alcohol in their body. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Kyle James SMITH, 25-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Operation While Impaired - 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on September 6, 2019 to answer to the charge.
