(NORTH HURON, ON) - A Morris-Turnberry resident is facing a couple serious charges after an officer caught him performing a "rolling coal" down the main street in Wingham.
On August 20, 2020 at approximately 8:00 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling on Josephine Street when he observed the driver of a pickup truck smoking out pedestrians with heavy black plumes of diesel exhaust. The officer followed the pickup truck out of town onto Amberley Road whereupon the driver of the pickup truck quickly accelerated. The officer measured the speed of the racing truck with a RADAR device and found it to be travelling at a speed in excess of 60 km/h over the posted 70 km/h speed limit.
A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was spoken to. While speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. As such, a roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a fail. He was immediately placed under arrest and transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were provided to the Intoxilizer Technician and both samples were analyzed to be over the legal limit.
