Arson Arrest

On January 4, 2017 at approximately 4:11pm, the Guelph Police Service and the Guelph Fire Department responded to a report of a garage fire at a residence in the west end of Guelph. The Guelph Fire Department reports that there were no major injuries, but one person did inhale some smoke. That person was subsequently treated and released on scene by paramedics.

As a result of the investigation by police and fire prevention, a 24 year old Guelph male has been arrested and charged with arson endangering life. He is being held for a bail hearing.

Estimates on total damage is not known at this time. Guelph police remain on scene as this incident remains an active investigation.

Drug Arrest

Members of the Guelph Police Service Drug Unit began a drug trafficking investigation in September 2017. The investigation came to a close on January 4, 2018, when two 19 year olds were placed under arrest.

A 19 year old Guelph male has been arrested and charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance and breaching his probation order.

A 19 year old Scarborough female has been arrested and charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking (charged jointly with the male).

Approximately $4600 worth of crystal meth, heroin and fentanyl were seized along with cash.

Both the male and female are being held for a bail hearing.

Theft and Fraud Arrest

In December 2017, Guelph police attended to a residence, where there was a report of a death. Investigation revealed that the death was not suspicious.

On January 3, 2018 police initiated a theft and fraud investigation that was related to the December 2017 death.

As a result of the investigation, on January 4, 2017, a 46 year Guelph male, who is known to the family of the deceased, was arrested and charged with theft under $5000, fraud under $5000, unauthorized use of credit card data and possession of a controlled substance.

Stolen Car Arrest

On November 28, 2017 Guelph police were notified that a Hyundai had been stolen. One day after the registered owner reported the car stolen, the owner saw his car being driven by a male, with a female passenger. The owner of the stolen car was able to confront the two occupants of his car and contacted police. However, the stolen car fled the area prior to police arrival.

On December 4, 2017, 28 year old Andrew Riddell, from Guelph, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property, dangerous driving and two counts of breaching his probation order in relation to this incident.

On January 4, 2018, a 20 year old Guelph female was charged with being an occupant in a stolen motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and breaching her probation order. She was held for a bail hearing.

Assault Arrest at Guelph General Hospital

On January 4, 2018 Guelph police attended to the Guelph General Hospital, where there was a report of an assault. As a result of the subsequent investigation, a 27 year old Guelph male was arrested and charged with assault and breaching his probation order. He was held for a bail hearing.

The victim in the incident received minor injuries.

Two Fraud Arrest

On January 4, 2018 Guelph police attended to a bank, located in the downtown area, where there was a report of a male attempting to conduct a fraudulent transaction. Police arrived, located the male and arrested him. Shortly after the male was placed under arrest, the male escaped custody and fled the area on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the male was apprehended.

As a result of this incident, a 24 year old Guelph male was charged with:

Utter forged document

Flight from lawful custody

Utter threats to cause death

Fraudulently obtaining transportation

Breaching his probation order

He was held for a bail hearing.

On November 28, 2017 the victim of a fraud contacted the Guelph Police Service and reported that money had been withdrawn from their account. Police initiated an investigation into the matter.

As a result of the investigation, on January 4, 2017, a 24 year old Guelph male was charged with three counts of fraud under $5000, breaching conditions of an Officer In Charge Undertaking and breaching his probation order.

The accused in this matter was charged at the Guelph police station, where he was in custody after being arrested for the arson that was previously mentioned.

Multiple Collisions

On January 4, 2018, between 8am and 9am, Guelph police responded to 8 collisions. Luckily, there were no injuries as a result of these collisions.
