Snow squall warning in effect for:
Goderich - Bluewater - Southern Huron County
Wingham - Blyth - Northern Huron County
Snow squalls are occurring. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.
Lake effect snow squalls are continuing to affect areas southeast of Lake Huron with the strongest squalls near Grand Bend extending southeastward to western sections of London. Local snowfall amounts up to 15 cm per 12 hours are likely in the strongest snow squall bands and visibilities near zero are expected due to strong northwesterly winds making travel hazardous. The snow squalls will continue into this afternoon, however, will become localized.
Local 2 day snowfall accumulations in excess of 50 centimetres are possible between Strathroy and Grand Bend.
Many sections of Highway 21 are closed due to weather. Dashwood road/Huron 83 is closed between Grand Bend and Exeter. Sections of the 402 south and west of London towards Watford are closed.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Road closures are possible.
