Over the last week 193 people from East-Wawanosh have contacted Blyth Free Press in favor of expanding the Wingham Police into East-Wawanosh. Only two people were in favor of the status-quo. Even farmers are smart enough to realize that the Wingham Police is a far superior service compared to the OPP.
East-Wawanosh residents are sick of drive-by OPP policing, and the fact the OPP simply refuse to show up or take days to respond to most emergencies. In one case the OPP took 2 days to respond to a call at the Wingham Hospital for a theft, proving the OPP simply dont care about our community.
All the farmers in East-Wawanosh have seen their farm values soar $200,000+/year and realize they need a qualified, competent and caring police force to protect their property and families and the OPP just doesnt cut it any more.
Policing costs will barley double in E-W, but you get what you pay for. An extra $500/property/year will allow the Wingham Police to start their expansion into E-W. That is only slightly double what they are paying now. Even farmers realize that an extra $500/year for policing is a drop in the bucket compared to the $200,000 their property values increase annually.
