(SMOOTH ROCK FALLS, ON) - Between April 4, 2018 and April 20, 2018, officers of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been investigating occurrences of Thefts and Break and Enters throughout the Town of Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario.
The OPP North East Region Criminal Investigation Unit, the North East Region Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) and members of the James Bay Detachments assisted in this investigation.
On May 3, 2018, at approximately 2:00 a.m., on Highway 634, north of the Town of Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario, the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit arrested Yves ROCHELAU, 42 years of age, of Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario.
The accused has been charged with the following offences:
Three counts of Break, Enter a Place contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 355(b) CC,
Two Counts of Theft Under $5000 from a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 334(b) CC,
Mischief Under $5000 contrary section 430(4) CC,
Fail to Attend Court contrary to section 145(2)(a) CC,
Three counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to section 145(3),
Four counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) CC, and
Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).
This investigation is ongoing at this time.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane, Ontario, on May 4, 2018.
