(MIDLAND, ON) - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement on County Road 93 at Wyebridge. At approximately 12:34 a.m. police observed a vehicle travelling 125 kilometers per hour (km/hr) in a posted 60 km/hr zone.
The driver fled police, left his vehicle and attempted to get away on foot. He was located at approximately 6:55 a.m. with the assistance of OPP uniform members, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and K-9 unit.
The driver, Jerrel MYTILL, age 23, of Scarborough was arrested and charged for the following offences:
Speeding 50 km+ over posted speed limit contrary to section128 of the Highway Traffic Act
Race a motor vehicle - Stunt contrary to section172 of the Highway Traffic Act
Race a motor vehicle - Excessive Speed contrary to section172 of the Highway Traffic Act
Driving while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
Driving motor vehicle with open container liquor contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle contrary to section 249(1) (a) of the Criminal Code
Mischief - damage property contrary to section 430 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code
Flight from police contrary to section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code
Mischief damage property contrary to section 430 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code
Trespass by night contrary to section 177 of the Criminal Code
MYTILL has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on June 7, 2018. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
