(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) - A 61-year-old Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh resident is facing charges of Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol following a traffic stop that took place north of Kingsbridge last week.
At approximately 10:45 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a black GMC Sierra travelling northbound on Bluewater Veteran's Highway in an erratic manner. A traffic stop was conducted to check on the sobriety of the driver and while speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol.
A roadside screening device was subsequently administered which resulted in a fail for the driver. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
61-year-old William SIMPSON from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol & Fail to Surrender Insurance Card. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for June 4, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. His vehicle was towed from the scene and has been impounded for seven days. In addition, his driver's licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
