(CENTRAL HURON, ON) - A 56-year-old from Goderich is facing a charge of Impaired Driving following a traffic stop that took place in Clinton earlier this week.
On Monday, May 7, 2018 at approximately 4:37 p.m. Huron County & Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received multiple traffic complaints about a possible impaired driver that was travelling westbound on Highway 8 from Stratford.
Patrols units began patrolling for the suspect vehicle and at approximately 5:30 p.m. a Huron OPP officer spotted the suspect vehicle travelling westbound into Clinton. A traffic stop was conducted and upon speaking with the male driver the investigating officer noticed signs the driver was under the influence of a drug. A field sobriety test was conducted whereupon the driver performed poorly. As a result he was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving and was transported to the Sebringville OPP Detachment for further examination.
Ultimately, he was examined by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) and it was determined the driver was indeed impaired by a drug.
Consequently, 56-year-old Robert MCFARLANE from Goderich has been charged with Driving While Impaired by a Drug. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for June 11, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
His licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
