(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) - On May 15, 2018 members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a vehicle theft in Ilderton, Municipality of Middlesex Centre.
The complainant reported their pick-up truck stolen from the property. The vehicle was unlocked with keys were in the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that other unlocked vehicles in the area were entered overnight. Residents reported valuables stolen from their vehicles.
Members of the Elgin-Middlesex Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) initiated their investigation and located the vehicle at a gas station in the City of London. A male suspect was taken into custody.
As a result of the police investigation, 25-year-old, male, Donald MCMILLAN, of Middlesex Centre, has been charged with the following offences pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada (CC):
Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 - in Canada
Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada x 6
CC 733.1(1) Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 3
The accused was held in custody and appeared in a London court room on May 16, 2018 to answer to the charges.
The Middlesex OPP is reminding residents of Middlesex Centre to Lock It or Lose It! Residents must take proactive steps to protect their property against theft.
Always roll up your vehicle's windows, lock the doors and pocket the keys. If you have a garage, park inside. Make sure to keep vehicle and garage doors locked. If you must park outside, always park in a well-lit area. If your vehicle is equipped with a security system, remember to activate it.
