(BIG GRASSY RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) - On June 18, 2018, a 24 year old was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code following the death of a 15 year old female.
Darrell TUESDAY from Mishkosiminiziibiing (Big Grassy River First Nation) has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Fort Frances at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 25, 2018.
On June 13, 2018, Treaty Three Police Service requested assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Crime Unit regarding a missing 15-year-old female from the community of Mishkosiminiziibiing (Big Grassy River First Nation). Members of the North West Region Emergency Response Team and a Canine (K9) Unit as well as North West Region Crime Unit members attended the community the afternoon of June 13, 2018. At approximately 7:45 p.m., her body was located behind the outdoor skating rink on Beach Road.
A post mortem examination has been completed at the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS) in Toronto. The results are not being made public.
Officers with the Treaty Three Police Service, OPP North West Region Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy GAYNOR of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Autumn ANDY from Big Grasssy First Nation.
