(MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION, ON) - On June 17, 2018, a member from the Mississauga First Nation Police Service was on patrol duties within the Territory of Mississauga First Nation.
Shortly before 9:00 a.m., the officer observed a pick-up truck travelling on Village Road and initiated a traffic stop. The driver produced a photocopy of an expired driver's licence. A driver's licence query revealed the driver was suspended.
As a result of the investigation, Michael CHIBLOW, 48 years of age, from Garden River, Ontario was charged with: Drive While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on August 15, 2018.
IMPAIRED DRIVER CHARGED WITH NUMEROUS OFFENCES
(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On June 23, 2018, shortly after 3:15 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police responded to anonymous complaint where an intoxicated male left a residence driving his vehicle in the opposite lane.
Shortly after 3:30 a.m. police observed a vehicle matching the description with its headlights on and parked diagonally across Woodward Lane which is between Woodward Avenue and Lawton Street. Police observed a male slouched over in the driver's seat and the vehicle door partially open with open containers of liquor in the vehicle.
It took several attempts to wake the driver. As the officer was speaking to the driver he could detect strong odour of alcohol emanating from his breath. The driver was then arrested and transported to Blind River detachment where he refused to provide a breath sample.
As a result of the investigation, Robert SCHELLEKENS, 27 years of age from Blind River, Ontario was charged with:
• Fail or Refuse to Provide Breath Sample, contrary to section 254(3) of the Criminal Code (CC);
• Care or Control While Impaired (alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the CC;
• Novice Driver-Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Level above Zero, contrary to section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
• Novice Driver Refuse to Provide Breath Sample, contrary to section 48.1(4) of the HTA;
• Having Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle with Unsealed Container of Liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA); and with
• Having Liquor in Open Container in other than Licenced Premises, Residence or Private Place, contrary to section 31(2) of the LLA.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 5, 2018.
TWO MALES CHARGED AT BALL PARK
(MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION, ON)- On June 24, 2018, a member from the Mississauga First Nation Police Service was on patrol duties within the Territory of Mississauga First Nation.
Shortly before 1:30 p.m., the officer was patrolling the parking lot of the baseball field during a baseball tournament when he observed two males sitting on a picnic table with open liquor.
As a result of the investigation, Kenneth CAMPBELL, 49 years of age from Elliot Lake, Ontario was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Having Liquor in Open Container in other than Licenced Premises, Residence or Private Place, contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act.
Devin MORNINGSTAR, 25 years of age from Blind River, Ontario was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Consuming Liquor in other than Licenced Premises, Residence or Private Place, contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act.
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION -MALE CHARGED
(MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION, ON) - On June 24, 2018, shortly after 6:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision near the junction of Highway 17 and Village Road within the Territory of Mississauga First Nation.
A small pick-up truck was stopped on Village Road and turned left into the eastbound lane on Highway 17 where it rear ended a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in front of him.
The driver and passenger of the SUV were taken to local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pick-up did not sustain any injuries. The SUV was towed.
As a result of the investigation, Darrion BOYER-GIONETTE, 20 years of age from Mississauga First Nation, Ontario was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:
Careless Driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act; and with
Fail to Surrender Insurance Card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
MOTORCYCLE DRIVER LOST ON A TRAIL CHARGED WITH NUMEROUS OFFENCES
(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) - On June 25, 2018, shortly after 7:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Mississauga First Nation Police Service responded to a motorcycle (dirt bike) operator who was lost on an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) trail within the Township of the North Shore.
The male driver was somewhere east of Highway 108 and north of Highway 17. Officers were provided with several GPS coordinates received from the male driver's cell phone ping as the male would not stay in the same spot as directed by police. OPP attended the area on ATVs and located the male in good health at 10:48 p.m. and transported him out of the bush.
As a result of the investigation, Kevin MCLEOD, 26 years of age from Elliot Lake, Ontario was issued five provincial offence notices and charged with:
Drive Motor Vehicle, No Plate, contrary to section 7(1)(b)(i) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
Drive Motor Vehicle-No Licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the HTA;
Unlawfully Drive Off-Road Vehicle on Schedule A Highway, contrary to section 3 of the HTA Ontario Regulation 316/03;
Not Properly Insured, contrary to section 17 of the HTA Ontario Regulation 316/03; and with
Fail to Surrender Permit for Off-Road Vehicle, contrary to section 3(2) of the Off-Road Vehicle Act.
