(CARLING TOWNSHIP, ON) - On July 6, 2018 at shortly after 4 p.m., a member of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver at Killbear Provincial Park in Carling Township, Ontario.
Police spoke to the Park Warden who had acted on a complaint and located the vehicle. The Warden detained the driver and waited for police arrival. The officer spoke to the driver and determined that he had consumed alcohol.
As a result of the investigation Brett STAUNTON, a 20 year old male from Oshawa, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Drive motor vehicle - over 80 mgs. of blood alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code, and
Drive motor vehicle while ability impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(a) the CC.
The driver was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on August 2, 2018.
The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
