(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) - On Friday July 6, 2018 at approximately 8:00 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to fail to remain on Sideroad 3 West, near Mount Forest. Reports indicated that a grey sedan and black sedan had collided and that shortly thereafter one of the drivers had fled the scene. OPP located the vehicle and driver a short distance away. No one was injured in the crash.
While speaking with the male driver who fled, officers formed the opinion that he was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.
18-year-old Ryan Leonard COFFEY of Wellington North has been charged with Impaired Driving and Driving with Over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code. He has also been charged with Failing to Remain at the scene of a collision and for being a Novice Driver with a Blood Alcohol Content (B.A.C.) above Zero contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 31, 2018.
