(ONEIDA NATION OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) - On July 12, 2018 at approximately 12:30 p.m., members of the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Police Service and the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an altercation at an address on Townline Road. The initial report suggested that a firearm had been observed.
Upon police arrival, a vehicle was observed leaving the scene. The vehicle was later located and the West Region (WR) OPP Canine Unit and WR OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) were deployed to assist in locating the suspects who had fled into a wooded area.
OPP Aviation Services deployed the OPP helicopter to assist searching the wooded area.
Members of the WR Canine and TRU located a firearm during the search. The investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle had been reported stolen to the London Police Service.
Townline Road, between Ballpark Road and Fairgrounds Road was closed to traffic for approximately four (4) hours.
At approximately 6:00 p.m., a member of the public reported a suspicious male in the area and police assets were re-deployed with negative results. All police assets cleared at approximately 7:30 p.m.
As a result of the police investigation, one (1) adult male was taken into custody and a second male, who has been identified, remains outstanding. Charges are pending.
No information exists to suggest that a firearm was fired. No one was injured as a result of this event.
Members of the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Police Service and the Middlesex County OPP Crime Unit have taken over the investigation.
