(THE ARCHIPELAGO TOWNSHIP, ON) - On July 16, 2018 a member of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was monitoring traffic on Highway 69 in The Archipelago Township, Ontario. At shortly before 3 a.m., a south bound vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. As a result, the vehicle was stopped for "Stunt driving - excessive speed, greater than 50 km/hr over posted speed limit".
The driver, Rachel FINSTAD, a 22 year old female from Kitchener, Ontario was arrested and charged with Race a motor vehicle - excessive speed contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA).
The driver was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on August 28, 2018. Her licence has been suspended for seven days and the vehicle she was operating has been impounded for seven days.
Every person convicted of performing a stunt with a motor vehicle is liable to a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both. In addition to his or her driver's licence being suspended and the vehicle they were operating being impounded for seven days.
