(RENFREW, ON) - The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 257 calls for service from Monday July 16 to Sunday July 22.



Domestic Violence



Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated 11 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with criminal harassment and engaging in harassing communications and one female was charged with assault. No other criminal offences were alleged. Break and Enter



Police are investigating after a quantity of prescription medication was stolen from a home on Frank Dench St in Renfrew. The home was entered between Saturday July 14 and Monday July 16. A screen was removed and a door unlocked to gain access. There is a suspect and Provincial Constable (PC) Jeff Bookholt is leading the investigation.



A warehouse on Argyle St in Renfrew was broken into sometime prior to Tuesday July 17. The building has been a frequent target for vandals. PC Lindsey Moore is leading the investigation.



On Friday July 20 during the afternoon someone forced open a back door to a home on Ross St in Renfrew. Once inside the thief stole cash, a man's wedding ring, a Bose wireless speaker, a laptop and an iPhone. PC Matt McLaren is investigating.



A home on Barr St in Renfrew was broken into between July 5 - 20. The homeowners were in and out of the home during the timeframe and noticed an open screen on a back window and a shoeprint on a couch. Stolen property was mainly jewelry including several gold wedding bands. PC Kirk Cullen is leading the investigation.



Thefts



Police are investigating several theft complaints, including liquor bottles being stolen from the Renfrew and Arnprior LCBO locations on Monday July 16, the Dairy Queen sign being stolen from the Arnprior store overnight on 15-16 July, and several thefts from vehicles in Renfrew. Motorists are encouraged to remove valuables from your car or truck overnight, and to lock your vehicle when you are not in it. Thieves are generally opportunists and target easy to access valuables. If your vehicle is locked, and they can't see anything of value they will usually move on. Don't be an easy target, Lock it or Lose it!



Impaired Driver



On Thursday July 19 at approximately 6:30 pm Arnprior OPP officers responded to a driving complaint on Daniel St N in regards to a vehicle swerving and driving slowly. PC Erin Densmore located the suspect vehicle and driver on John St N near the hospital. The male was arrested for driving while disqualified. The male driver had been drinking and following breath tests at the detachment was charged with care or control of a motor vehicle over 80mgs, driving while disqualified, 3 counts of breach of a recognizance, driving while under suspension and driving a motor vehicle with open alcohol. Ralph PEDLEY aged 62 of McNab Braeside Township was held in custody for a bail hearing.



On Sunday July 22 at 12:20 am officers from the Renfrew OPP were conducting RIDE spot checks on Calabogie Road in the Township of Greater Madawaska. They stopped a male driver who had been drinking. The male was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the detachment for breath tests. At the conclusion of the investigation Nicholas MONSOUR aged 23 of Ottawa was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on August 15. The passenger in the vehicle Andrew Benjamin aged 35 of Ottawa was ticketed for having open alcohol in a public place. PC Jason Golds led the investigation.



Mischief



On Saturday July 21 between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm a vehicle was vandalized while in the parking lot in front of Giant Tiger in Renfrew. The vehicle was a red 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 pick-up truck. The valve stems were pulled out of the tires and the tires were flat when the owner returned. PC Kyle Cullen investigated.



On Sunday July 22 at approximately 6:20 pm Arnprior OPP officers were notified of 6 young people at the fairgrounds damaging property. When officers arrived they located and detained 2 youths. They admitted they were responsible, and the other 4 youths were identified. The youths will be dealt with through the Extra Judicial Measures program. PC Kayla Couture led the investigation.



Safe Streets Act



On Sunday July 22 at 9:50 am Arnprior OPP officers responded to a Tim Horton's parking lot to investigate two males allegedly trying to sell gold jewelry from a car. The suspects were located and charged with aggressive solicitation under the Safe Streets Act. PC Scott Childerhose led the investigation.



Stunt Driving Charge



On Thursday July 19 at approximately 2:47 pm Sgt Derek McLeod was patrolling on Highway 17 in Horton Township when he observed traffic swerving to avoid a driver passing unsafely. The driver was also speeding in excess of 50 km above the posted 90 km/hr limit. As a result Darrell THOMAS aged 57 of Elizabethtown Township was charged with stunt driving and passing when unsafe to do so. His licence was suspended for 7 days, his vehicle was impounded for 7 days and he was issued a summons to appear in traffic court in Renfrew on August 17.
