(GRAVENHURST, ON) - Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 3:30PM, members of the Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a violent altercation at a seasonal residence on Kahshe Lake.
Upon arrival, a 67-year-old male, who has since been identified as John KEHL of Brampton, Ontario, was located deceased.
The ongoing investigation into his death is being conducted by the Muskoka OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Gerald Scherer from the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
A 30-year-old male from British Columbia was taken into custody at the scene and as a result, Adam KEHL (son of the deceased) has been charged with:
Second Degree Murder, Contrary to Section 235 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Indignity to a Dead Body, Contrary to Section 182(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Assault, Contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bracebridge tomorrow for a bail hearing.
A post mortem examination will be conducted at the Office of the Chief Coroner - Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS) at a date yet to be confirmed.
